LOVE the Excalibur 3900 9-Tray Dehydrator!!! You can get the 3900 refurbished for about $199 from Excalibur themselves. The trays are some of the largest and the back heating element and fan makes a HUGE difference in time and even dehydrating. I recommend also checking any thrift shops or even Cabelas Bargin Cave if you have one nearby.

I found my first Excalibur 4-Tray Starter Dehydrator for $30 and all it needed was a new fuse. That's another thing to remember, a dehydrator is really only 4 parts; fan,heat coil, thermal fuse, and temperature knob(potentiometer) all are cheap and easy to replace so get spares.

Can use a lamp timer for 3900

For the Excalibur models without a timer: A cheap lamp timer makes my Excalibur easy to use overnight or when I'm away. It is also useful for a crock pot that doesn't have an auto shut-off.
