Trail Bytes, June 2025: Pasta Roundup
June 06, 2025
Hello Chef,

For this month’s edition of Trail Bytes, I built a new page to make it easier to find all the articles about dehydrating pasta on the Backpacking Chef website. Whether you’re ready for spaghetti, or looking for perfect al dente macaroni, the new page will help you with your next pasta project.

The new pasta page will be especially useful for new backpacking chefs; it includes step-by-step instructions for dehydrating pasta, and the various ways to rehydrate it in meals.

Dehydrating Pasta Topics:

  • Benefits of Dehydrating Pasta
  • Best Pasta to Dehydrate
  • How to Dehydrate Pasta
  • Rehydrating Dehydrated Pasta Meals
  • Dehydrating Pasta by Type
  • Dehydrating Pasta Sauce

You’ll also find a few tips for using gluten-free pasta in backpacking meals. The meal shown below was made with chickpea rotini. If you are using gluten-free pastas, I’d love to hear from you regarding your experiences, and any specific gluten-free pastas that have worked or not worked out for you.

New: Search this Site

This month I added a Search this Site function to help you find topics on the Backpacking Chef website. Click the magnifying glass symbol at the top on mobile, or the Search this Site button on a computer, and you can find help with any project from dehydrating applesauce to zucchini.

Click on the search box image below to give it a go!

Dominique and I love to receive stories or photos of your adventures or trail meals. Feel free to drop one in with a reply to this newsletter.

Last month, we hiked with family at Atzmännig. The main attraction at this family-friendly destination is a Rodelbahn, which is an alpine sled on wheels you can ride down the mountain in a curvy track. The area has several trails with views of the Swiss countryside.

Thanks for reading Trail Bytes. See you again in July.

Freundliche Grüsse,

Chef Glenn & Dominique
