Trail Bytes, Sept. 2025: Special Sauce and a Big Move September 05, 2025 |
Hello Chef, It’s been a busy couple of months here in Pfäffikon. Dominique and I have been clearing out our apartment in preparation for our move to Georgia. Other than what’s in our suitcases and eight boxes mailed ahead, all our furniture and belongings went to new homes or the recycling center. It is unsettling but also liberating to let go of the things that have served us well in this Swiss home over the past fourteen years. What goes with us is the love that is in our hearts, for each other, and for our family on both sides of the Atlantic. I am deeply grateful to Dominique for the life she made possible for us here, and for all her organizing and packing that made this transition go smoothly. And many thanks to our daughter, Valérie, for running the online process of finding new homes for our things. It was always part of the plan to move back to Georgia when Dominique retired. Our house there has sat quietly unoccupied all these years, except when we travelled back twice a year for visits. Now we are switching things around, and we will travel back to Switzerland for visits. Extra-Saucy Ratatouille RecipeI leave you with one last creation from the Swiss kitchen. It’s an extra-saucy ratatouille which goes great with pasta. We like it with added ground beef or chicken, but chickpeas would be a good vegetable protein choice. Rice could easily replace pasta in the recipe.
Explore the New Recipe:How to Make Ratatouille for Home & TrailWhat’s Next? When we get settled in Georgia, I’ll need to build up a new supply of dehydrated meals. That will be a good opportunity to document the process and publish it as a new Action Guide. The first one, The Action Guide: Dehydrating 31 Meals, has been very popular. If you own the first Action Guide or are interested in a step-by-step guide to building a supply of dehydrated meals, I’d love to hear from you with any ideas or suggestions for the next edition.
Freundliche Grüsse,
