What’s for Dessert?

You know I love to top off my trail dinners with a hot and tasty dessert, so it was a given that this month’s new page about dehydrating nectarines and nectarine fruit leather would lead to pudding.

The new page covers the basics of how to dehydrate nectarines and includes nectarine fruit leather recipes. The leather that ended up in the pudding was a combination of steamed carrots and nectarines seasoned with cinnamon and honey.

I also made a 3-ingredient fruit leather with nectarines, pears, and cucumbers which is light and refreshing as a trail snack or rehydrated into a smoothie.

From the Mail Bag:

Cindy writes: “I read with interest your apple pretreatment article. My method of pretreating apples is to toss them in fresh-squeezed orange or tangerine juice without water. It’s still acidic but adds a milder flavor with decreased browning. We really like it!”

Grindelwald, Switzerland

Dominique and I hiked at Grindelwald in July to celebrate our birthdays. This region is in the Bernese Alps of Switzerland, about a 2½ hour drive from Pfäffikon. It’s home to the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau Mountains with spectacular scenery at every turn. Highly recommended if you ever visit Switzerland.

Are you having great summer adventures, too? Feel free to send us a photo of your last hike or backpacking meal creation. Thanks for reading Trail Bytes. See you next month.

Freundliche Grüsse,

Chef Glenn & Dominique
